Propose new functionalities for Decidim software
#DecidimRoadmap Designing Decidim together
Admin analytics dashboard
Hi everyone !
We would like to have some feedback from the community regarding one of our clients request for a new feature.
Our client request is to implement a metrics section within the admin dashboard so as to analyze users behaviour within Decidim.
Some of the metrics he wishes to see are already recordable with an analytics tool such as Matomo. Some he wishes to collect through a customization of the registration form (age, gender, etc.). We don't have yet the complete list of the metrics he wishes to see.
Even without this list, this request obviously raises questions regarding Decidim Social Contract and that is why we would like some feedback.
Aside from a "plain" no, we thought about the following proposition :
any metric shown in the admin dashboard must be displayed to the users as well so as to respect Decidim's transparency commitment.
This is not the first time the need for metrics to evaluate their participatory process management has arisen among our clients.
The development of this proposal has finished

I personally think these kind of personal data (age, gender, etc.) should be at least encrypted.
Ideally these data also should be saved dissociated from the user itself, although I don't know how to do this on a secure way (ie not to leak data to logs or make associations based on created_at columns for instance) and this could be an issue to get some kind of data (like "how many women have participated on X process?").
I'd love to hear feedback from @xabier
Clearly. We need to be careful collecting and handling such data.
Moreover we anticipate the fact that implementing a dashboard may open the door to lots of analytics customization requests according to the indicators used by an administration to evaluate its participatory processes.
Yet we understand the need for an administration to assess and optimize its actions to strengthen participation.
Therefore, since we submitted this proposal, we thought about restricting the metrics shown to participation data. The aim would be to aggregate already available, shown data and adding filtering capacities (by participatory process, by components, by time frame) so that an admin can effectively analyze its participatory process.
We are agreed to show organization stats and metrics in the admin panel.
Following the comment of @andres we need to find a way to encrypt the personal data and show it just in an aggregated way.
