Radically reimagining the Democracy in Europe Movement (DiEM25)
Dear metadecidim members,
Firstly, thank you so much for your dedicated work, I am very grateful and inspired by your commitment to the commons and participatory democracy. I am writing to you as a grassroots member of DiEM25 / MERA25 and an advocate of Decidim. In 2016, DiEM25 was launched in Berlin, united by the goal of democratising Europe by 2025. We have failed, but there is still hope, but we need to radically reimagine politics.
I recently completed my master thesis ‘Digital Urban Commons: Reimagining digital participation as commons co-governance and co-production’ which comparatively analysed decidim.Barcelona and mein.Berlin under the framework of commoning. I am now committed to promoting discussions within our movement to radically reimagine how we organise, to promote new relationalities centred around co/re/unlearning, co-governing and co-producing and adopting Decidim as an enabling technopolitical infrastucture for our movement. As a member based in Berlin, I am also calling for our movement to unite together around the 2026 Berlin election, to collectively develop a framework for radical democracy at the municipal level, that can be used as a template to democratise our cities from the ground up across Europe.
You are warmly invited to share any thoughts you might have here, otherwise, I also invite you to become members of DiEM to not only bring your specialised knowledge of Decidim, but to help radically reimagine our movement of over 26,000 members across Europe. I am also calling for an All-Member-Vote for DiEM to offically form an alliance with Metadecidim. On Monday, the 24th November at 19:00 CET we will be organising the first meeting of the Radical Democracy Task Force, if anyone would like to join/present on behalf of metadecidim, please reach out to me on Signal - williambanjo.40
Carpe DiEM, with radical care and solidarity from Berlin!
