Decidim Redesign: let's build together the Admin Dashboard
As part of the improvement of the Decidim Participant Experience, from Populate we carry out this workshop so that the community actively collaborates in the redesign of the platform.
Through a session with administrators and power users we are going to lay the foundations for the new Decidim administration area.
What will we do in the workshop?
- Present the most common pain points and how Populate sees its redesign after working with the feedback collected through the debate published in meta.decidim.
- Leave a space in the session for each attendee to express their ideas for improvement.
- Collaboratively debate these ideas among all the attendees.
Let's build Decidim together!
Made by: Populate (@rober) - See the orginal proposal made in the open call
* All workshops will be conducted in English and/or Spanish, adapting to the audience.

Structure & navigation (Where)
- Know where you are (lack of breadcrumb) (3)
- Keep scrolling at minimum or use tabs (3)
- It’s not easy to navigate between levels and sections (1)
Workflows (How)
- Dealing with much content & options (7)
- [Lack of ] Guided wizards to create process and/or predefined templates (5)
- Hide irrelevant actions or rarely used (3)
Understandability (why)
Part 2) results pros/cons & other ideas related to our proposals- [Lack of ] Admin helptext tooltips in fields (5)
- Difficult to understand what the settings do and when they should be applied (4)
- Terms and icons… are not consistent and clear enough (4)
*_Structure & navigation (Where) *_
Shown a WIP of breadcrumb & mega menu
Pros: Process summary, Breadcrumb, overview, clear UI zoning, looks better, avatars
Cons: megamenu everywhere, process edit button maintained in irrelevant page, I don’t really see how to edit my process, list of process in breadcrumb, how appear/disappear?, “about process” should be separated from components, breadcrumb not consistent with FE (Home / Space…), yellow bar looks like an alert banner (like FE)
Other ideas: truncate activity list items to fit 1 line, name of the component & component type should be both visible
Workflows (How)
Shown a WIP of managing components config in a unique matrix
Pros: Much clearer than current behaviour, cool overview, Admins / process designers needs to sintetizeto less than 4 steps
Cons: Still 2 different styles for boolean option, Verifications?, Responsive with a lot of phases?, too much limitations to number of steps to admin/process
Other ideas: default settings, customize what you need for each step, don’t show all settings for all steps, good idea but still very complicated, on the subject of advanced mode -> Shortcuts menu
Understandability (why)
Shown a WIP of process dashboard & helptext placeholders when something is not yet defined
Pros: Last activity is a very good idea, love the tabs, Thank you “...” menu
Cons: clear distinction when something is published or not, 2 top menus on top of each other is confusing, edit button too small (for process), Add phase looks like drag&drop, editing actions on the topbar not that clear.
Other ideas: submenu has to be different for admin roles, what displayed when there isn’t any phase defined?, Pending tasks (eg. moderations), make Decidim “intelligent” about your most common actions
Amazing job @populate!
