This text is a draft communiqué aimed at denouncing certain uses (or abuses) of the Decidim platform. The text comes as a result of an alert (and a proposal) from our dear colleague @Fran, because of the recent deployment of the Decidim platform by the government of Chile, in the current climate of protest and accusations of violations of human rights of protesters(External link). Her proposal on this issue can be found in this thread(Opens in new tab).

The Decidim team and, later, the Coordination Committee of the Decidim association, in a meeting on 3 December 2019, have thought necessary to denounce such uses of our platform, in the chilean case and beyond. After the conversations on the above mentioned thread and the meeting of the coordination committee, it has been decided to open this draft communiqué to the whole Decidim community. It will remain open from Wednesday, December 4th, to Thursday, December 12th, at 10:00 (noon), CET. Later on that date, the text will be made public on the Decidim blog and will be disseminated by the project networks.

Ps.: this space is aimed at developing concrete amendments to the text of the communiqué. In order to open more general debates (e.g. if Decidim should position itself publicly in situations of flagrant participative washing or which human rights organisations should be the reference when doing so) we suggest using the space "Decidim policy debates(Opens in new tab)" (updated version Tuesday 10 desember).
