Carl T. Bergstrom is a professor of biology at the University of Washington and co-author of the book Calling Bullshit, which addresses modern techniques of disinformation based on data-driven narratives. Detecting this type of hoaxes is especially complex because they exploit the language of mathematics, science and statistics. To ensure that the future of the Internet is free of bullshit, it is necessary to recover strategies such as the art of skepticism and critical thinking. For this purpose, Carl will talk in this session with

  • Pablo Aragón, research scientist on knowledge integrity at the Wikimedia Foundation,
  • Luce Prignano, researcher at Universitat de Barcelona Institute of Complex Systems (UBICS) and Heurística, and expert in data science against disinformation with the DataPolitik project,

together with moderator Nereida Carrillo, journalist, researcher at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and promoter of the Learn to Check project.
