🎨 Community participatory process for contributing to the Decidim redesign
A participatory process is a sequence of participatory activities (e.g. first filling out a survey, then making proposals, discussing them in face-to-face or virtual meetings, and finally prioritizing them) with the aim of defining and making a decision on a specific topic.
Examples of participatory processes are: a process of electing committee members (where candidatures are first presented, then debated and finally a candidacy is chosen), participatory budgets (where proposals are made, valued economically and voted on with the money available), a strategic planning process, the collaborative drafting of a regulation or norm, the design of an urban space or the production of a public policy plan.
We open a participatory process so that the community can contribute to the new Decidim redesign, which will be carried out by the winners of the Contracting of services for the development of the evolutive development of functionalities and participative experience of the Decidim platform, contract and the product team.
We are starting the process of redesigning Decidim, a path that will lead us to rethink the entire interface. We want to focus on the participant's experience, improving the usability and accessibility of the platform, to make a leap in quality that will allow us to expand the use of Decidim to the maximum.
We will follow an agile, flexible and open work method. This will allow us to incorporate the contributions made by the community, while at the same time complying with the established schedule to deploy the improvements planned in the roadmap.
To organize the process we have decided to go from the most structural to the most concrete.That is, we want to start by analyzing those elements that have a greater impact on the platform as a whole, such as the navigation system or the cards. Then, later on, we will focus on those elements that have greater specificities, such as certain components.
Initially, a debate will be opened to carry out a collective diagnosis of the main pain points that Decidim has at the usability level. This discussion will serve as a starting point for the redesign team to start working on the first proposals.
This process will have several phases that will be defined as it progresses. At the moment an initial structure with 4 phases can be seen.
A similar structure will be repeated in each phase of the process:
- Community open discussion
- Redesign team work
- Mockup publication
- Community meeting
- Final iteration of the redesign team
Throughout the process, several meetings will be held to provide feedback on the proposals submitted. These meetings will focus on specific topics, those of greatest relevance for the design of the platform.
