In the spotlight
At Decidim we like to recommend interesting articles, resources and materials about our community and open source ecosystem. In this edition we focus on what is digital sovereignty, and why is everyone talking about it. Here you have some goodies worth reading!
Robin Berjon explains how governments, tech giants, and citizens are competing for control over data and digital infrastructure—and what it means for the future of the internet.
The Barcelona imaginaries: a decade of digital politics: This article analyses a decade of opposing imaginaries around digital politics in the Catalan capital. It illustrates how Barcelona moved from a narrative of smartness to one of technological sovereignty and, from there, to one of technological humanism.
Amsterdam's Path to Digital Independence: The city aims to regain control over its digital infrastructure by implementing measures such as prioritising digital self-sufficiency in procurement, ensuring data sovereignty, adopting open-source software, and exploring alternative social media platforms.
In this episode of Tech Won’t Save Us, economist Aline Blankertz discusses Europe's reliance on US tech giants and explores strategies for achieving digital sovereignty.
