The time has come! Save the date: November 4-5-6 Decidim Fest 2025

In a world where big tech monopolies shape our digital lives and authoritarianism is gaining ground, the question of who owns, designs, and controls technology has never been more pressing.
What are the technopolitical principles that guarantee that a technology is open and equitable? What public policies should be promoted to ensure the sustainability of Digital Heritage? How do we “reconfigure” digital infrastructures so that they serve social transformation rather than corporate interests?
Decidim FEST 2025 will be a very special edition dedicated to reflecting on building technology as a public good. We will be collaborating with MozFest, which will be held in Barcelona from November 7 to 9, to organize the Barcelona Open Tech Week, an event that positions the city as a hub for technology for the common good at the intersection of democracy, technology, and digital rights.
Let’s collectively imagine and build open, democratic digital infrastructures linked to the public good.
📌Mark November 4-5-6 on your calendar, more details coming soon!

In the spotlight
At Decidim we like to recommend interesting articles, resources and materials about our community and open source ecosystem. In this edition we focus on digital platforms as a way to support community-driven economic models and the implication of technology in upholding democratic values and human rights.
Zine from the We Robot 2025 Conference: The document emphasizes the importance of interdisciplinary approaches to address the challenges posed by the convergence of technology and authoritarian governance. It also highlights the role of education and public discourse in fostering a society that values democratic principles over technological determinism.
Civic Protocol Economies: Exploring the Intersection of Community and Technology. The publication investigates the convergence of two emerging economic models: the civic economy and the protocol economy.
1984 was yesterday: Why we need open-source tools today: In 1984, George Orwell imagined a world where information was completely controlled. Today, that dystopia is more real than ever: four major corporations — Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, and Meta — concentrate power over how we communicate, work, and organize ourselves.
