Hi there! I feel that we don't have the discussion component well resolved. But to be all on the same page, right now there are 2 types of debates:
- AMA (Ask Me Anything) type: they are created from the admin and they do have a start date and an end date due to the format of the debate itself, inspired by what Reddit does: https://www.reddit.com/r/Debate/comments/3kljcf/announcingthedebateamaseries/
- Open type: they are created from the admin and from the FO. The creator of the debate doesn't necessarily know the exact date when the discussion is going to reach some conclusions.
Precisely the recent option to "close debate" came to solve the use case of having an open debate, and when a consensus or conclusions are reached, it can be closed. I don't see any problem in adding the end date when a debate is created from the FO, but I wanted to point out that until now, both types were considered. Maybe that field can be optional, or it can be editable.
thoughts @paarals @Nil_Homedes @microstudi?
*discussion component = debate component :)
I see no problems by making the end time optional, in fact it should be able to edit or remove it if it was already there and the debate creator decides to do so.
It should be marked accordingly in the debate card: no finish timeline, finishes on ...
yes, we agree (I hadn't seen this other proposal: Possibility to set an undefined time in the end date for a debate ?commentId=23318)
