Use machine translation in notifications

Is your feature request related to a problem? A clear and concise description of what the problem is.

As a user who follows a space or a user I receive an email notification when a new content is published. Sometimes the content I receive is not in my language which makes the email notification unreadable for me. I have to click on the link to go on the page and see the machine translation.

As an admin or moderator of a participatory space, I receive an email notification when a new content is reported. Sometimes the content I receive is not in my language which makes the moderation really hard. I have to click on the link to go on the page and see the machine translation.

Describe the solution you'd like

As a user, when machine translations are activated (Feature introduced in PR 6127 https://github.com/decidim/decidim/pull/6127 (External link)), I'd like to receive the machine translated version of the UGC (user generated contents : proposals, meetings, debates, comments) in the email notifications along with the original content to avoid any confusion.

If in the admin the configuration is “Show translated text first” we will show the translated text first then the original text, and vice versa.

Please note, that implementing this functionality, requires that all the emails that are being sent in the application having UGC, will need to be delayed for a specific amount of time, to allow the machine translation mechanism to perform its tasks. This delay is implemented only if the machine translation is configured. At the moment the delay expires, the email will be sent, even though, at that point in time, the translation is not present (original text will be sent instead). A message will be included in the notification to explain why there is no translation "Sorry, the automated translation could not be retrieved when the email has been sent. You can check the translation of the original text on the following %{link}." (To be analyzed if here can be a private/ admin link or is mandatory to have a public link to resource)

In case the content posted in the same language as the recipient’s preferred language , then a text like: “The content has been posted in your preferred language (%{language}), this is why no automated translation is displayed in this email.”

To be analyzed if it’s possible to have an auxiliary behaviour, like : if the submitted content matches the language in which the recipient has chosen to receive its content, then the email to be sent instantly.

Hello @carol
I talked again about this with the EU team.
It turns out that weather we display translations by default or the original content is admin config that you can choose in the admin (global config). (Screen Capture : https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/11473995/117036464-c1a21a00-ad05-11eb-8e81-482646bf1cf6.png)
So it makes sense that notifications (email, in-app) follow the same logic. Depending on the configuration chosen by the admin the user generated content is displayed translated (a text warning should say when it's a translation) or not.
Let us know if developers can proceed :)

Hi @virgile_deville, yes, it makes sense to be consistent with the configuration. Anyway, to be transparent with the participants and to avoid misunderstandings caused by automatic translations, our proposal is that the mail notification incorporates the original text and the translation.
Thus, if the configuration is "translated text first", the translation is shown first and then the original text, and vice versa. See: https://tinyurl.com/yekgg4x6

Hello Carol,
Thanks for your feedback !
Great idea to have the translation and the original in the email.
I would have it regardless of the configuration.

Discussing with the EU tech team, we are going to have to introduce a delay of a couple minutes (that will be configurable at the organization level) on sending the email that we make sure the tanslation is available in the db.
If for some reason the translation is not available we plan to have a text replacing the translated text block by an error message that would go like this "Sorry the automated translation could not be made at the moment the email was made. Please click on the link bellow to get the translation.".

Does all of this sounds good ?

The information presented in the email should be a plain information that would allow the recipient of the email easily understand why there is no translation in that email, so, our recommendation for the text is: a "Sorry, the automated translation could not be retrieved when the email has been sent. You can check the original text and translations on the following %{link}" (The variable can be a be a direct link to the admin panel containing that particular resource ).

Hello @alecslupu
You text is better, as this meta proposal is not about only admin notifications but notifications in general I'd put a link to the public ressource in the front end.
