Dear community, I recently presented decidim and it's functionality to my supervisors. One remark that came up pretty quickly is the possibility to moderate content before being published. I know that there is the possibility to flag content as inappropriate and then to hide it. However, the concern came up that offensive comments or proposals posted in the evening or on Sundays will be online at least until the next working day (and if the moderators are out of office even longer). Would a module that gives ability to moderate content before publishing violate against decidim's social contract and thus negotiating the possibility of using decidim as participatory platform? Best wishes, Eduard

I have discovered this Github issue: https://github.com/decidim/decidim.org/issues/179
Have there been already discussions on this topic in the past and what was the result?

Hi @eduard and welcome to the community! :) I totally agree with @Leo. In our experience, and many cities are now using Decidim, trolling is practically non-existent.

I understand the initial fear that there can be among city officials (if that is the case), because certainly in the corporative networks like Twitter or Facebook there is a lot of trolling for example towards the public representatives. But experience confirms that platforms like Decidim do not reproduce the dynamics that occur in social media or in a very marginal way.

I'm a bit late to this "party" but this has also been discussed at GitHub before:
https://git.io/JkLfN

Mostly the same concerns in that issue that has been raised here.

Initially this was also a major concern for a large city in Finland regarding Decidim, one that almost seemed like a deal breaker for the platform. Now they've been running on Decidim and the need for moderation is quite rare as mentioned above.

In Finland, we do look at these things from a slightly different aspect. Corruption and dishonest governments is not really a thing here, people trust the decision makers and municipal officials. Implementing pre-moderation would not cause any harm here but I do see the context in other countries where this may be a big issue. For us it is sometimes especially hard to understand the thinking behind such decisions.

This said, the post moderation has worked well and there is barely any need for moderation in most situations.
