Or simply forbid the use of the "@" character as the first one (as a validation rule)?
Hi! Yes, this is a common reported error. In release 0.19 we removed the "@" from the hint to avoid that confusion, but I think @alexPicoli's idea would avoid it altogether.

@carol finally which is the position regarding this proposal? will we be able to add this to master?
Our initial idea has changed. We won't add the hint, but instead add the "@" symbol as an inline input symbol, see examples:

We'll also add the validation.
