Introduction: One of the most important and complex aspects of a platform or network like decidim.barcelona is balancing transparency, usability and enriched user experience with the right to privacy and security of user data, as well as anonymity in decision-making systems.

Challenges: Should we be able to show (if we want) our location and data as thematic preferences to enrich our user profile? If I delete my user account, what should happen to my data, comments and proposals made, and at the same time comply with legal retention periods? Should support for proposals be encrypted? How can we facilitate the configuration of the platform's privacy options? How do we generate a secure, encrypted and free voting system? How can we promote network neutrality from projects like decidim.barcelona?

Examples: Decidim.barcelona should guarantee the possibility of total anonymity in the participation, once the profile of a user has been verified. This implies an easily understandable explanation of the relevance of this issue and how to guarantee it through profile settings. Furthermore, the technical characteristics of the platform should not only guarantee this possibility but should also be accessible and usable in order to reduce as much as possible the barriers for the user when exercising it.
